Istighatha and its proof

The proof for istighatha is the verse, “When you pleaded with your Lord for help, He responded to you.” ⦗al-Anfal 8:9⦘ ⦗24⦘

(24) Istighatha (calling for rescue) is an act of worship, meaning the plea for deliverance that is made only at times of severe distress, when a person seeks relief from Allah alone. Istighatha is of two kinds: 1. Seeking rescue from a created being in matters that only Allah can accomplish; this constitutes shirk (associating others with Allah). Thus, anyone who calls upon jinn, humans, the absent, or the dead commits shirk. Appealing to the dead or to absent spirits among the devils and jinn therefore falls under this prohibition. 2. Seeking rescue from a living, present creature concerning something that lies within that creature’s natural ability; this is permissible. Concerning Musa, Allah says: “The man who was from his faction sought his help against the one who was from his enemy” (al-Qasas 28:15).
