Sharh Thalathat al-UsulSalih Al-Fawzan

And the hadith states: “When you seek help, seek it from Allah.” [21]

(21) Istiʿanah—that is, seeking help—falls into two categories: 1. Help sought in matters that only Allah can accomplish; directing such help-seeking to anyone other than Allah constitutes shirk (polytheism), for it assigns an act of worship to another. 2. Help sought in matters within human capacity: asking someone to build a wall with you, carry your belongings, or assist in any permissible task. Concerning this, Allah says, “Cooperate in righteousness and piety, and do not cooperate in sin and aggression” (Al-Maʾidah, 2). This ordinary mutual assistance is unobjectionable, for it is part of cooperation in goodness. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Allah remains in the aid of His servant so long as the servant is in the aid of his brother.”
