Desire, dread, and humility—and the proof for each.
The textual proof for desire, dread, and humble submission is the Almighty’s statement: “Indeed, they used to hasten toward every good deed, and would call upon Us in hope and fear, and were humbly submissive to Us.” (Al-Anbiya 21:90) ⦗18⦘
…do not depend on the means themselves; rather, place your dependence on Allah. You sow the seed in the earth—this is merely a cause—but do not rely on your sowing and your effort. Rely on Allah for the seed’s growth, its fruition, its protection and its soundness. For this Allah says: “Have you considered what you till? Is it you who make it grow, or are We the One who makes it grow?” (al-Waqiʿah 56:63-64). Allah is the true cultivator; you have only performed a cause. The crop may grow or it may not; and even if it grows, it may thrive or fail, it may be struck by a blight and perish.
(18) • raghabah: desiring something praiseworthy. • rahabah: fear of something dreaded; Allah says, “And fear Me alone” (al-Baqarah 2:40). Rahabah and khawf (fear) are synonymous. • khushuʿ: humble submission and abasement before Allah; it is one of the highest stations of worship.
الرغبة والرهبة والخشوع ودليل كل
وَدَلِيلُ الرَّغْبَةِ وَالرَّهْبَةِ وَالْخُشُوعِ قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: ﴿إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا يُسَارِعُونَ فِي الْخَيْرَاتِ وَيَدْعُونَنَا رَغَبًا وَرَهَبًا وَكَانُوا لَنَا خَاشِعِينَ﴾ [الأنبياء: ٩٠] [١٨] .
لا تعتمد على الأسباب، وإنما تعتمد على الله، أنت تزرع الزرعَ في الأرض، هذا سبب ولكن لا تعتمد على زرعك وفعلك، بل اعتمد على الله في نمو هذا الزرع وتثميره وحمايته وإصلاحه، ولهذا يقول: ﴿أَفَرَأَيْتُمْ مَا تَحْرُثُونَ أَأَنْتُمْ تَزْرَعُونَهُ أَمْ نَحْنُ الزَّارِعُونَ﴾ [الواقعة: ٦٣، ٦٤] فالزارع الحقيقي هو الله أما أنت فقد فعلت سببًا فقط قد ينتج هذا الزرع وينبت وقد لا ينتج، وإذا نبت قد يصلح وقد لا يصلح، قد يصاب بآفة، فيذهب.
[١٨] الرغبة: هي طلب الشيء المحمود.
الرهبة: هي الخوف من الشيء المرهوب، قال تعالى: ﴿وَإِيَّايَ فَارْهَبُونِ﴾ [البقرة:٤٠] وهي نوع من الخوف، الرهبة والخوف بمعنى واحد.
الخشوع: نوع من التذلل الله ﷿، والخضوع والذل بين يديه ﷾ وهو من أعظم مقامات العبادة.
