In the hadith it is stated: “Supplication is the very essence of worship.”
The proof is the Almighty’s saying: “And your Lord has said, ‘Call upon Me and I will respond to you; indeed, those who are too proud to worship Me will enter Hell in humiliation.’” (Ghafir 60) ⦗14⦘
(14) “Wa qala rabbukum” (And your Lord has said) means that your Lord has commanded you. He also says: “Ud‘uni astajib lakum” (“Call upon Me and I will answer you”). In these words He commands us to supplicate to Him alone and promises a response. This is a mark of His bounty, for He is independent of our prayers while we stand in need of Him. Thus He orders what benefits and reforms us. Indeed, He—exalted is He—becomes displeased when we stop asking Him, whereas a created being becomes displeased when he is asked. As the poet says:
“Allah is angered when you abandon asking Him,
while the children of Adam become angry when they are asked.”
