from attributing these words to Shaykh al-Islām in a truncated, abridged form to vilify him. They thus combined lying with falsification.
The foregoing establishes the following:
-
The passage quoted is not the wording of Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyya, as the writer and, before him, his teacher al-Kawtharī alleged. Their false attribution to him—may Allah have mercy on him—has thus been exposed.
-
The writer and his teacher quoted an abridged version of the passage. They did not quote it in full, which would have clarified the intended meaning of Imām al-Dārimī—may Allah have mercy on him.
-
It is clear that these words occurred in the context of debate and of holding an opponent to the implications of his position, not in the context of expounding and establishing doctrine. It is a well-established principle that a scholar’s creed is not to be inferred from his debates, for in debate a scholar mentions matters solely to silence his opponent and invalidate his argument.
From this, you can see that the writer’s statement, “Is it, then, pure monotheism, O shaykh of Harran, and you who fanatically adhere to his aberrant views, to deem it possible for the Lord of the worlds—glorified and exalted is He above what you ascribe to Him—to settle upon the back of a fly or mosquito?” is nothing but bluster from an unjust and ignorant man, supported by nothing but lies, falsification, and ill suspicion. Allah is sufficient to call him and his teacher before him to account, and they shall both receive from Allah what they deserve.
- The writer says on p. 15:
“And is affirming movement for Allah Most High part of monotheism concerning His names and attributes, as Ibn Taymiyya maintains in his book ‘Muwāfaqat Sarīh al-Ma‘qūl’ (2/4), printed in the margins of Minhāj al-Sunnah, falsely attributing this to the people of hadith and the early generations?!!
Where has Allah Most High described Himself in His Book using the word ‘movement’?!”
