reason.” 1.
Another example is His saying:
“And if you asked them who created the heavens and the earth, they would surely say, ‘Allah.’”
Once their acknowledgment was established, Allah rebuked them, expressing His condemnation, saying:
“Say, ‘Praise be to Allah.’ But most of them do not know.” 2.
Allah Most High also says:
“Is Allah better, or what they associate with Him? Or is He not better who created the heavens and the earth and sent down rain for you from the sky, with which We caused beautiful gardens to grow—whose trees you could not have caused to grow?”
There is no doubt that the only answer they can possibly give is that the One who is able to create the heavens and the earth, and the other things mentioned with them, is better than an inanimate object that has no power to do anything. Since this acknowledgment was inescapable for them, He rebuked them, expressing His condemnation, saying:
“Is there a god besides Allah? Yet they are a people who ascribe equals to Him.”
Then the Most High said:
“Or is He not better who made the earth a stable abode, placed rivers within it, set firm mountains upon it, and placed a barrier between the two seas?”
There is no doubt that the only possible answer is the same as before. Since this acknowledgment was inescapable for them, He rebuked them, expressing His condemnation, saying:
“Is there a god besides Allah? But most of them do not know.”
Then He, the Majestic and Exalted, said:
“Or is He not better who responds to the one in distress when he calls upon Him, removes harm, and makes you successors on the earth?”
There is no doubt that the answer is the same as before. Since they could not but acknowledge this, He rebuked them, expressing His condemnation, saying:
“Is there a god besides Allah? Little do you remember!”
Then the Most High said:
“Or is He not better who guides you through the darkness of land and sea, and who sends the winds bearing good tidings ahead of His mercy?”
There is no doubt that the answer is the same as before. Since they could not but acknowledge this, He rebuked them, expressing His condemnation, saying:
“Is there a god besides Allah? Exalted is Allah above whatever they associate with Him.”
Then He, the Majestic and Exalted, said:
“Or is He not better who originates creation and then repeats it, and who provides for you from the sky and the earth?”
There is no doubt that the answer is the same as before. Since this acknowledgment was inescapable, He rebuked them, expressing His condemnation, saying:
