The Sound Statement in Refutation of Those Who Deny the Classification of Tawhīd (Monotheism)
...
1 The writer says on p. 3: “This is a concise treatise and a lofty beacon in which I establish the invalidity of the trinitarian division of tawhīd into oneness in worship, oneness in lordship, and oneness in names and attributes ...”
I say: The Trinity is a vile Christian doctrine founded upon making the gods three: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Allah has declared them disbelievers on account of it in His clear revelation, saying—exalted is He:
“Those who say, ‘Allah is the third of three,’ have certainly disbelieved. There is no god but one God. If they do not desist from what they say, a painful punishment will surely afflict those among them who disbelieve. Will they not, then, repent to Allah and seek His forgiveness? Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” 1.
As for dividing tawhīd into three categories—oneness in lordship, oneness in worship, and oneness in names and attributes—or into two categories—tawhīd of knowledge and affirmation, encompassing oneness in lordship and oneness in names and attributes; and tawhīd of will and pursuit, meaning oneness in worship—this is the creed of all Muslims who believe in the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, except for misguided innovators.
Oneness in lordship means firmly believing that Allah alone is the Creator, the Provider, the Giver of life and death, and the One who governs all the affairs of His creation, with no partner in any of this.
Oneness in worship means singling out Allah alone for submission, humility, love, reverence, and every other form of worship, with no partner alongside Him.
Oneness in names and attributes means firmly believing in Allah’s names and attributes mentioned in the Quran and Sunnah, and affirming them without distortion or denial, without specifying how they are, and without likening them to those of created beings.
