957 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Bayān ibn al-Ḥakam narrated to us; from Muḥammad ibn Ḥātim; Bishr ibn al-Ḥārith narrated to me; Khālid al-Wāsiṭī narrated to us; from Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr; from Yaḥyā ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān; from Abū Wāqid al-Laythī, who said: “We examined the various deeds and found none that carries a person further in seeking the Hereafter than zuhd (detachment from the worldly life).”
٩٥٧ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنَا بَيَانُ بْنُ الْحَكَمِ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَاتِمٍ، حَدَّثَنِي بِشْرُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ الْوَاسِطِيُّ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ أَبِي وَاقِدٍ اللَّيْثِيِّ قَالَ: تَابَعْنَا الْأَعْمَالَ، فَلَمْ نَجِدْ عَمَلًا أَبْلَغَ فِي طَلَبِ الْآخِرَةِ مِنَ الزَّهَادَةِ فِي الدُّنْيَا "
