943 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; al-Ḥasan narrated to me; Ayyub ibn Suwayd narrated to us, from Abu Zurʿah, who said:
“Sulayman asked Haniʾ ibn Kulthum for the hand of his daughter on behalf of his own son Ayyub, who was the crown prince. Haniʾ refused to marry her to him. After returning to his household, he called one of his cousins and married her to him instead. Sulayman remarked, ‘Had he been looking for worldly gain, he would have married her to us.’”
