920 – ʿAbdullah narrated to us; my father narrated to us; Sayyār narrated to us; Jaʿfar narrated to us; an elder from Banū Tamīm known as Abū Hazzār narrated to us. He said:
Umm al-Dardāʾ said to me, “Abū Hazzār, shall I tell you what the dead person says while he is laid upon his bier?” I replied, “Yes, please do.” She said, “He calls out: ‘O my family, O my neighbors, O bearers of my bier! Let not this world beguile you as it beguiled me; do not let it play with you as it played with me. My family have not carried away from me a single particle of my burden, and if they could shield me today before Allah, they would surely plead on my behalf.’”
Umm al-Dardāʾ added, “The world is more enchanting to a servant’s heart than Harut and Marut; never has any servant preferred it but that it brought him crashing down, striking his cheek to the ground.”
