Report 88:
ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; my father narrated to us; Wakiʿ narrated to us; al-Rabīʿ ibn Saʿd al-Juʿfī informed us—he had heard it from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Sābiṭ—from Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh who said:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Relate accounts from the Children of Israel, and there is no harm in doing so, for wondrous things occurred among them.”
He then began to tell a story, saying: “A party from the Children of Israel once set out until they reached one of their own graveyards. They said, ‘Let us pray two units of prayer and beseech Allah to bring forth for us a man who has died, so that we may ask him about death.’
“They performed the prayer, and while they were still there, a man raised his head from a grave in that cemetery. He was dark-skinned, and between his eyes was the mark of prostration. He said, ‘O people, what do you want with me? I died one hundred years ago, yet the heat of death has not cooled for me until this very moment. So invoke Allah to restore me as I was.’”
