858 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to us; Ismaʿil narrated to us; Yunus narrated to us, from Humayd ibn Hilal, who said:

Ibn Masʿud declared, “I wish that I had been fashioned from the droppings of a donkey, so that I would be traced back to nothing but that, and people would simply say, ‘ʿAbd Allah ibn Rawtha (ʿAbd Allah the son of dung).’ Yet I do know that Allah—Mighty and Majestic—is He—has forgiven me one sin.”
