Report 87:

ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; he said: ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿUmar al-Qawārīrī narrated to us; Yazīd ibn Zurayʿ narrated to us; ʿUmārah ibn Abī Ḥafṣah narrated to us; ʿIkrimah narrated from ʿĀʾishah—may Allah be pleased with her—that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was wearing two coarse, heavy cloaks from Qatar. ʿĀʾishah said: “O Messenger of Allah, these two garments of yours are rough and heavy; when you drape them over yourself they weigh you down. Send to So-and-so—some Syrian cloth has reached him—and buy from him two garments on deferred payment.”

He sent to the man, and the envoy said to him, “The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, has sent me asking you to sell him two garments on credit.” The man replied, “By Allah, I know exactly what the Messenger of Allah is after: he wants to take my garments without paying, or else keep me waiting for their price.”

The envoy returned to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and reported what he had said. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, responded, “He has lied. They know full well that I am the most God-fearing among them and the most scrupulous in fulfilling trusts.”
