- ʿAbd Allāh related to us—al-ʿAbbās ibn al-Walīd al-Narsī told me; ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Mubārak narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Wahhāb ibn al-Ward, from Sālim ibn Ḥajal—who said:
Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, wept during his final illness. He was asked, “What makes you cry?” He answered, “I do not weep for this worldly life of yours. Rather, I weep because the journey ahead is long while my provisions are few. This evening I find myself on a slope that ascends toward Paradise or descends toward the Fire, and I do not know to which of the two I shall be taken.”
