ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father conveyed to me; Muhammad ibn Jaʿfar related to us; Shuʿbah transmitted, from ʿAmr ibn Murrah, from a shaykh (elder), from Abu al-Dardaʾ, who said:
“I cherish poverty because it makes me humble before my Lord. I welcome death out of longing to meet my Lord. And I accept illness as an atonement for my sins.”
