ʿAbd Allah related to us, saying: my father related to me; ʿAbd al-Samad ibn ʿAbd al-Warith related to us; al-Muthannā ibn ʿAwf related to me; Abu ʿAbd Allah—meaning al-Jasri—related to me:
A man went to Abu al-Dardaʾ, greeted him, and said, “Advise me, for I am setting out on campaign.” He replied, “Fear Allah as though you see Him until you meet Him; count yourself among the dead and do not count yourself among the living; and beware the supplication of the wronged.”
