Report 76: ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us, my father narrated to us, Ismāʿīl ibn Muḥammad narrated to us, ʿAbbād—meaning Ibn ʿAbbād—narrated to us, Mujālid ibn Saʿīd narrated to us, from al-Shaʿbī, from Masrūq, from ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her), who said:
“A woman from the Anṣār came to visit me and noticed that the Messenger of Allah’s (peace and blessings be upon him) bedding was only a folded cloak. She went home and sent me a mattress stuffed with wool. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) entered, he asked, ‘What is this?’ I replied, ‘So-and-so, the Anṣārī woman, came in, saw your bedding, and sent this to me.’ He said, ‘Return it.’ I did not send it back, for I liked having it in my house, until he repeated that command three times. Then he said, ‘O ʿĀʾishah, return it. By Allah, had I wished, Allah would have made mountains of gold and silver flow for me.’ So I returned it.”
