Abu al-Dardaʾ said, “It would give me no pleasure to stand on the steps at the door of the mosque, buying and selling so as to earn three hundred dinars every day—even if I could still attend every prayer in the mosque. I am not suggesting that Allah has failed to permit trade and forbid usury; rather, I long to be among those of whom He says: ‘Neither commerce nor sale distracts them from the remembrance of Allah’ (Qur’an 24:37).”
