ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Abu ʿAbd Allah al-Sulami related to me; ʿAbd al-Razzaq narrated to us; he said, “I heard Thawr ibn Yazid report from Khalid ibn Maʿdan, from Abu al-Dardaʾ—may Allah have mercy on him—who said:

‘This worldly life is accursed; accursed is everything in it except the remembrance of Allah and whatever leads to the remembrance of Allah. The scholar and the student of knowledge share the same reward, whereas the rest of the people are but rabble, in whom there is no good.’
