- ʿAbd Allah narrated to us—Hārūn ibn ʿAbd Allah told me; Sayyār narrated to us; Jaʿfar narrated to us; and Saʿīd al-Jarīrī narrated to us, from some of his elders—that Abū al-Dardāʾ once noticed a man at a funeral procession who kept asking, “Who is this?” Abū al-Dardāʾ said to him, “It is you—yes, you! Allah says: ‘Indeed, you are going to die, and indeed they are going to die’ (Qur’an 39:30).”
٧١٥ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنِي هَارُونُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنَا سَيَّارٌ، حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرٌ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ الْجَرِيرِيُّ، عَنْ بَعْضِ، أَشْيَاخِهِ أَنَّ أَبَا الدَّرْدَاءِ، أَبْصَرَ رَجُلًا فِي جِنَازَةٍ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: مَنْ هَذَا؟ فَقَالَ أَبُو الدَّرْدَاءِ: هَذَا أَنْتَ هَذَا أَنْتَ يَقُولُ اللَّهُ – Exalté soit-Il – ﴿إِنَّكَ مَيِّتٌ وَإِنَّهُمْ مَيِّتُونَ﴾ [الزمر: ٣٠] "
