Abd Allah narrated to us; my father related to me; Ismail ibn Ibrahim reported to us, from Musa, from al-Hasan, who said:
Abu al-Dardaʾ declared, “My dear son, do not let your eyes pursue everything you notice among people. Whoever lets his gaze follow all that he sees will only prolong his grief, and his anger will never be relieved. Whoever recognizes Allah’s favor only in his food or his drink has but little knowledge, and punishment is drawing near to him. And whoever cannot feel a sense of sufficiency in this world, then he truly possesses nothing of it at all.”
