ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father related to me; ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father related to me; Ḥajjāj narrated to us; Sharik related, from ʿĀṣim ibn Kulayb, from Muḥammad ibn Kaʿb al-Quraẓī, from ʿAlī—may Allah honor his countenance—who said:

“I remember being with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and I would fasten a stone to my stomach out of hunger; yet today the alms I give amount to forty thousand.”
