701. ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; ʿAli ibn Hakim al-Awdi related to me; Sharik narrated to us, from Musa al-Tahhan, from Mujahid, from ʿAli—may Allah be pleased with him—who said:

I once came to a garden or orchard. Its owner said to me, “A bucket of water for a date.” So I drew up a bucketful in exchange for a date, filled my two hands with the dates, and drank some of the water. Then I went to the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—with the handful of dates. He ate some of them, and I ate some as well.
