- ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Abū ʿAbd Allah al-Sulami related to me; Ibrahim ibn ʿUqbah narrated to us, from Sufyan al-Thawri, from ʿUmar ibn Qays, who said: It was said to ʿAli—may Allah be pleased with him—“Why do you keep patching your shirt?” He answered, “It softens the heart, and the believer will follow the example.”
٦٩٩ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ السُّلَمِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عُقْبَةَ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ الثَّوْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ قَيْسٍ قَالَ: قِيلَ لِعَلِيٍّ (عليه السلام): «لِمَ تُرَقِّعُ قَمِيصَكَ؟» قَالَ: «يَخْشَعُ الْقَلْبُ وَيَقْتَدِي بِهِ الْمُؤْمِنُ»
