- ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Wakiʿ narrated to us. He said: Ibn Abī Khālid, on the authority of Zubaydah, reported that ʿAlī—may Allah honor his countenance—said. Wakiʿ also said: Yazīd ibn Ziyād ibn Abī al-Jaʿd narrated to us, from Muhājir al-ʿĀmirī, from ʿAlī—may Allah honor his countenance—who said:
“The two matters I fear for you most are prolonged hope and the pursuit of passion. Prolonged hope makes one forget the Hereafter, while yielding to passion turns one away from the truth. Take heed: the dunya has turned its back and is departing, whereas the Hereafter is drawing near, and each of them has its children. Be, therefore, among the children of the Hereafter and not among the children of the dunya. For today there is action with no reckoning, but tomorrow there will be reckoning with no action.”
