Al-ZuhdAhmad Ibn Hanbal
  1. ʿAbd Allah narrated to us—my father told me—Muhammad ibn Bakr narrated to us; Ali ibn Masʿadah said: I heard ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Rumi remark: “Whenever ʿUthman—may Allah have mercy on him—rose during the night, he would fetch his own water for ablution. His family said to him, ‘Will you not instruct the servants to bring you your ablution water?’ He replied, ‘No, for sleep is their time to rest.’”
