675. ʿAbd Allah narrated to us—my father told me—ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿIsa, Abu Khalaf al-Khazzaz, narrated to us; Yunus ibn ʿUbayd reported that al-Hasan was asked about people who take their midday rest in the mosque. He replied, “I saw ʿUthman ibn ʿAffan—may Allah be pleased with him—lying down for his siesta in the mosque while he was, at that time, the caliph.”

He went on, “When he rose, the imprint of the pebbles was still visible on his side,” and he would remark, “Behold the Commander of the Faithful, behold the Commander of the Faithful!”
