- ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; ʿAli ibn Thabit narrated to us, from ʿAbd Allah—meaning the son of Yazid ibn al-Saʾib—who said:
ʿUmar ibn al-Khattab once mounted a riding animal and noticed that its droppings contained whole grains of barley. He exclaimed, “It feeds like this while Muslims are dying of emaciation? I shall not ride it again until the people have regained their vitality.”
