- ʿAbdullāh narrated to us and said, “I found this report in my father’s notebook, written in his own hand.” Hāshim ibn al-Qāsim, Abū al-Naḍr, transmitted it to us; Abū ʿAqīl al-Thaqafī, ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAqīl, transmitted it, from Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd al-Anṣārī, from an informant of his, from ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb (may Allah have mercy on him). He said:
“Religion is not a matter of loud chanting in the last part of the night; true religion is waraʾ (scrupulous God-fearing restraint).”
