Al-ZuhdAhmad Ibn Hanbal
  1. ʿAbdullāh narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Jarīr narrated to us, from Mughīra, from Mujāhid, who said:

When ʿUmar arrived in Syria, a dihqān (local landowner) prepared a meal for him and for his companions. He then came to invite them, so ʿUmar said to the people, “Whoever among you wishes may accept the invitation.” He himself said to the host, “Send me two loaves and a single dish of your food.” The man obliged, and the food reached ʿUmar while he was treating one of his camels with a mixture of dung and tar. He wiped his hands with earth, shook them off, and ate.
