ʿAbdullāh narrated to us; my father related to me; Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd narrated to us, from Misʿar, from Simāk al-Ḥanafī, who said: I heard Ibn ʿAbbās say, “I remarked to ʿUmar—may Allah have mercy on him—‘Through you Allah has founded garrison cities, opened new territories, and accomplished many other feats through you.’ He replied, ‘I would be satisfied if I could be saved with neither reward nor burden.’”
