Al-ZuhdAhmad Ibn Hanbal
  1. ʿAbd Allah narrated—from his father, from Ḥafṣ ibn Ghiyāth, from Ḥanash ibn al-Ḥārith—who said:

ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb, may Allah have mercy on him, was scarcely ever known to criticize any food. His servant—either Yarfaʿ or Aslam—said, “I will prepare something that will make him disapprove of it.” He therefore made some sour milk and placed it before him. ʿUmar tasted it, furrowed his brow, and then said, “How excellent this is from Allah’s provision!”
