Abu ʿUbayd reports: “In the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—ʿUmar, may Allah have mercy on him, once urged his horse forward, and the motion caused his cloak to lift, exposing his thigh. A man from Najran noticed a birthmark there and exclaimed, ‘This is the very one we read of in our scripture—he is the one who will drive us from our homeland.’”
٦٥٠ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ، حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ قَالَ: " رَكَضَ عُمَرُ فَرَسًا عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَانْكَشَفَتْ فَخِذُهُ مِنْ تَحْتِ الْعَبَاءَةِ؛ فَأَبْصَرَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ نَجْرَانَ شَامَةً فِي فَخِذِهِ، فَقَالَ: «هَذَا الَّذِي نَجِدُهُ فِي كِتَابِنَا يُخْرِجُنَا مِنْ دِيَارِنَا»
