Umar—may Allah have mercy on him—wrote to Abu Musa:
“Nothing will secure for you the reward of the Hereafter more than renouncing this world; and beware of sampling the baser traits of character and their ignobility.”
٦٤٧ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنَا أبِي، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ قَالَ: كَتَبَ عُمَرُ (رحمه الله) إِلَى أَبِي مُوسَى: «إِنَّكَ لَمْ تَنَلْ عَمَلَ الْآخِرَةِ بِشَيْءٍ أَفْضَلَ مِنَ الزُّهْدِ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَإِيَّاكَ وَمَذَاقَ الْأَخْلَاقِ وَدَنَاءَتَهَا»
