Al-ZuhdAhmad Ibn Hanbal
  1. ʿAbd Allah related to us; my father related to us; Wakīʿ related to us; al-ʿAlāʾ ibn ʿAbd al-Karīm related to us, from one of his companions, who said: ʿUmar—may Allah have mercy on him—said: “Acquire knowledge, and together with knowledge learn serenity and forbearance. Show humility toward those you teach, and let those you teach show humility toward you. Do not be among the overbearing tyrants of the scholars, and do not allow your knowledge to stand side by side with your ignorance.”
