- ʿAbd Allah related to us; my father related to us; Sayyār related to us; Jaʿfar related to us; Hawshab narrated from al-Hasan that ʿUmar—may Allah have mercy on him—was once offered a draught of honey. He tasted it and realized it was simply water mixed with honey, whereupon he said, “Keep its reckoning away from me; keep its expense away from me.”
٦٢٨ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنَا أبِي، حَدَّثَنَا سَيَّارٌ، حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرٌ، حَدَّثَنَا حَوْشَبٌ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ أُتِيَ بِشَرْبَةِ عَسَلٍ فَذَاقَهَا، فَإِذَا مَاءٌ وَعَسَلٌ، فَقَالَ: «اعْزِلُوا عَنِّي حِسَابَهَا اعْزِلُوا عَنِّي مُؤْنَتَهَا»
