608 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Abu al-Haytham al-Zibali Muhammad ibn Yaʿqub al-Basri narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah ibn Numayr narrated to us, from ʿUbayd Allah ibn ʿUmar, from Thabit, from Anas, who said:
“ʿUmar’s stomach began to rumble. It was the Year of the Famine (ʿĀm ar-Ramādah), and he was living on plain oil, having forbidden himself clarified butter. He tapped his belly with his finger and said, ‘Rumble all you want! You will get nothing else from us until the people regain their livelihood.’”
