607 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; al-Walid ibn Shujaʿ ibn al-Walid ibn Qays al-Sakuni said: My father told me, Ziyad ibn Khaythamah told me, from Muhammad ibn Juhadah, that Habib ibn Abi Thabit related to them from Yahya ibn Jaʿdah, who said:
ʿUmar declared, “Were it not for three things, I would have loved to have already met Allah: that I set my forehead upon the ground for Allah in prostration; that I sit in gatherings where the choicest words are selected just as the finest dates are picked; and that I travel forth in the path of Allah.”
٦٠٧ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدِ بْنُ شُجَاعِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ السَّكُونِيُّ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي حَدَّثَنِي زِيَادُ بْنُ خَيْثَمَةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جُحَادَةَ أَنَّ حَبِيبَ بْنَ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ حَدَّثَهُمْ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ جَعْدَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ عُمَرُ: «لَوْلَا ثَلَاثٌ لَأَحْبَبْتُ أَنْ أَكُونَ قَدْ لَقِيتُ اللَّهَ – Exalté soit-Il – لَوْلَا أَنْ أَضَعَ جَبْهَتِي لِلَّهِ – Exalté soit-Il – وَأَجْلِسُ فِي مَجَالِسَ يُنْتَقَى فِيهَا طَيِّبُ الْكَلَامِ كَمَا يُنْتَقَى فِيهَا طَيِّبُ الثُّمَّرِ وَأَنْ أَسِيرَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ – Exalté soit-Il –»
