- ʿAbd Allah related to us; my father told me; ʿUbayd Allah ibn ʿUmar informed us; ʿAbd al-ʿAziz ibn Muhammad al-Darawardi transmitted, from Zayd ibn Aslam, from his father: ʿUmar once saw Abu Bakr with his tongue protruding, grasping it in his hand. ʿUmar said, “What are you doing, O Successor of the Messenger of Allah?” Abu Bakr replied, “Nothing has driven me to the brink of ruin except this.”
٥٨٠ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الدَّرَاوَرْدِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ أَسْلَمَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّ عُمَرَ رَأَى أَبَا بَكْرٍ وَهُوَ مُدْلٍ لِسَانَهُ، آخِذُهُ بِيَدِهِ، فَقَالَ: «مَا تَصْنَعُ ⦗٩٣⦘ يَا خَلِيفَةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ؟» فَقَالَ: «وَهَلْ أَوْرَدَنِيَ الْمَوَارِدَ إِلَّا هَذَا»
