ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: Muhammad ibn ʿAbbad al-Makki reported to me; he said: Hatim ibn Ismaʿil narrated to us, from Ibn ʿAjlan, from ʿAmir ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Zubayr, from his father, that ʿUmar, while standing on the pulpit, mentioned Abu Bakr—may Allah be pleased with him—and said, “Indeed, Abu Bakr was always in the lead, surpassing everyone else.”
