- ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Ismaʿil informed us, from ʿAwf, from Muhammad ibn Sirin, who said: “I know of no one who ever forced himself to vomit up food he had eaten except Abu Bakr. He was once served a meal and ate from it. Then someone told him, ‘Ibn al-Nuʿman is the one who brought it.’ Abu Bakr exclaimed, ‘So you have fed me the proceeds of Ibn al-Nuʿman’s soothsaying?’ He thereupon induced himself to vomit—something to that effect.”
