- ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿAmr narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah—meaning Ibn Jaʿfar—narrated to us, from Ismaʿil ibn Muhammad:
Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, once made a distribution and treated all the people alike. ʿUmar, may Allah be pleased with him, said to him, “O Successor of the Messenger of Allah, will you place the Companions on the same level as everyone else?” Abu Bakr replied, “This present world is only a provision for the journey, and the best provision is that which is most ample. Their real superiority lies in the reward they will receive.”
٥٧٠ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنِي أبِي، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ جَعْفَرٍ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ أَنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ (رضي الله عنه) قَسَمَ قَسْمًا سَوَّى فِيهِ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ، فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ (رضي الله عنه): «يَا خَلِيفَةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ، تُسَوِّي بَيْنَ أَصْحَابٍ وَسِوَاهُمْ مِنَ النَّاسِ؟» فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ: «إِنَّمَا الدُّنْيَا بَلَاغٌ، وَخَيْرُ الْبَلَاغِ أَوْسَعُهُ، وَإِنَّمَا فَضْلُهُمْ فِي أُجُورِهِمْ»
