- ʿAbdullāh narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Muḥammad ibn Bishr narrated to us; ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿUmar narrated to us, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Qāsim, from his father, from ʿĀʾishah who said:
When death approached Abu Bakr, he said to ʿĀʾishah, “I am not aware that the family of Abu Bakr owns anything from this wealth except this milch she-camel and this young servant who polishes the Muslims’ swords and serves us. When I die, hand him over to ʿUmar.”
When she sent the servant to ʿUmar, he said, “May Allah have mercy on Abu Bakr; he has truly made it hard for those who come after him.”
٥٦٨ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنِي أبِي، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ (عليه السلام) قَالَتْ: إِنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ (رضي الله عنه) حِينَ حَضَرَتْهُ الْوَفَاةُ قَالَ لِعَائِشَةَ: " إِنِّي لَا أَعْلَمُ فِي آلِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ مِنْ هَذَا الْمَالِ شَيْئًا إِلَّا هَذِهِ اللِّقْحَةَ وَهَذَا الْغُلَامَ الصَّقِيلَ كَانَ يَعْمَلُ سُيُوفَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَيَخْدُمُنَا، فَإِذَا مُتُّ فَادْفَعِيهِ إِلَى عُمَرَ (رضي الله عنه)، فَلَمَّا بَعَثَتْ بِهِ إِلَى عُمَرَ قَالَ: يَرْحَمُ اللَّهُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ لَقَدْ أَتْعَبَ مَنْ بَعْدَهُ "
