Al-ZuhdAhmad Ibn Hanbal

Report 57: ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; my father narrated to us; Abū Saʿīd narrated to us; Sulaymān—meaning Ibn Bilāl—narrated to us, from ʿAmr ibn Abī ʿAmr, from ʿĀṣim ibn ʿUmar ibn Qatādah, from Maḥmūd ibn Labīd, who said that the Messenger of Allah—may blessings and peace be upon him—said:

“Indeed, Allah surely shields His believing servant from the world, even while He loves him, just as you withhold food and drink from your sick one, fearing harm for him.”
