ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Siyyar informed us; Jaʿfar narrated to us; Bistam, from Salamah al-ʿAwzi, from Muʿawiyah ibn Qurrah, related that Luqman said to his son:

“My dear child, sit with the righteous servants of Allah, for you will partake of the good that flows from their virtues, and perhaps—at the very end—mercy will descend upon them and you will share in it alongside them. My dear child, do not keep company with the wicked, for you will gain nothing good from their gatherings, and it may well be that, in the end, a punishment overtakes them and you are struck by it together with them.”
