Abd Allah narrated to us, my father narrated to me, Hashim narrated to us, Ibn ʿAyyash informed us, from ʿAbd Allah ibn Dinar:
Luqman said to his son, “My dear child, humble yourself before your Lord, for He has no need of you while you can never do without Him.
My child, be like one who does not seek people’s praise but rather notes their censure; he burdens only himself, and people are at ease with him.”
