528 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to us; Musa ibn Dawud reported: I heard Malik ibn Anas (d. 179 AH) say, “I was told that a group from the Children of Israel used to fast during the day. When night fell and the food was laid out, they would take turns among themselves. One of them would stand up and say, ‘Do not eat too much, or you will drink too much—and then you will sleep too much.’”
