526 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Sayyār narrated to us; Jaʿfar narrated to us; Mālik ibn Dīnār (d. 86 AH) informed us, saying:
“There was a rabbi among the scholars of the Children of Israel. Men and women would frequent his house, and he would preach to them, reminding them of the Days of Allah. One day he noticed one of his own sons winking at the women, so he said, ‘Easy, my son—easy, my son!’
He (the narrator) said: The rabbi then fell from his bed, his spinal cord was severed; his wife miscarried, and his sons were killed while serving in the army. Allah revealed to their prophet: ‘Inform So-and-so the rabbi that I shall never bring forth from your loins a single siddīq (true saintly man). Your anger for My sake amounted to no more than saying, “Easy, my son—easy, my son.”’”
