Al-ZuhdAhmad Ibn Hanbal

ʿAbdullāh narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Ghassān ibn al-Rabīʿ narrated to us; ʿĀmir ibn Yasāf narrated to us, from Mālik ibn Dīnār, who said:

“The Children of Israel once entered one of their mosques on a festival day. A young man stood outside at the door and began to weep, raising his voice in tears and heaping reproach upon himself. He kept saying, ‘Someone like me should not enter with you; I am the one guilty of this, the one guilty of that.’

“Then it was revealed on the tongue of one of their prophets: ‘So-and-so is numbered among the siddeeqīn (the truly sincere) on account of that young man.’”
