507 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Ibrahim ibn Khalid narrated to me; he said: ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman narrated to me that he heard Wahb ibn Munabbih say:
“A woman from the Children of Israel passed by some water and bathed in it. She then stood to pray and remained standing for sixty—some say seventy—years, never leaving her place, never eating, never drinking, until her body had withered away. Only then did she finish her prayer. She was asked, ‘How did you endure that?’ She replied, ‘Each morning I would say, “I shall not live to see evening,” and each evening I would say, “I shall not live to see morning.”’”
